Description
Summary:Despite the common origins and themes of the Syrian and Egyptian Islamic movements, the goals, tactics, socioeconomic composition of the membership, and even the ideology of these groups are to a large degree functions of specific local conditions or responses to specific state policies and cannot be adequately explained by generalized theories of Islamic resurgence. The differences between the Islamic movements of Syria and Egypt can be attributed to variations in state structure and policy between the two countries. (DÜI-Hns)
