Summary: | Among the manifold theological topics addressed by Georges Khodr (born 1923), the current Greek Orthodox metropolitan of Mount Lebanon and one of the most influential Christian theologians in the Arab World, Islam occupies a privileged place. Khodr’s approach to this religion, with which Christians in the Middle East have been confronted since the 7th century, not only testifies for theological innovation, but also reveals the intimate link between "good" theology and context. The present paper explores the major features of this approach, focusing on its contextual dimension. Special attention is devoted to Khodr’s understanding of Jesus crucified as realizing the very nature of Islam. |
