| Summary: | Stoic influence in the Matthean text we know as the Sermon on the Mount has been suggested for some time. The purpose of this article is to point to the presence of a predominant Stoic notion of single- mindedness as an important topos within the Sermon on the Mount. While not proving Stoic influence in the Sermon, the presence of this topos not only helps to clarify elements of the Sermon but also suggests connections with teachings of Jesus elsewhere in Matthew, for example in relation to marriage. In doing so, the article contributes to our growing understanding of the complex world of Hellenistic Judaism in Jesus’ day. L’influence de la pensée stoïcienne dans ce texte de l’évangile de Matthieu connu sous le nom de Sermon sur la montagne a déjà été suggérée à quelques reprises. Le but de cet article est de montrer que l’idée, typiquement stoïcienne, suivant laquelle focaliser ou porter son attention sur une seule et même idée constituerait un important «topos» de ce texte. Sans qu’il soit question de prouver l’influence du stoïcisme à l’intérieur du Sermon sur la montagne, il n’en demeure pas moins que la présence de ce «topos» aide non seulement à clarifier certains élément de ce texte, mais elle permet également d’établir certains liens avec l’enseignement de Jésus tel qu’on le retrouve ailleurs dans l’évangile de Matthieu, notamment lorsqu’il est question du mariage. Ainsi, cet article contribue-t-il à une meilleure compréhension de ce monde, si complexe par ailleurs, qu’était celui du judaïsme hellénistique à l’époque de Jésus. |
