| Summary: | 'Being safe is scary': Banu Cennetoğlu's installation in 2017's Documenta 14 reveals a fundamental ambivalence of the wish for, or reality of, security. Ambivalence of human existence is the central reason why there is theology. A theology of security will primarily distinguish the need from the discourse of security, emphasizing the priority of need in relation to discourse. It will, secondly, argue that on grounds of this distinction a broader, relatively indeterminate perspective on human need is attained, making possible its reinterpretation. Consequently, and finally, it will show that a biblically based key to this need would not be that of a tight resource of security but that of abundance - scooped out of the theological continuity of creation and grace. |
