Description
Summary:Museums confer visibility on cultural evidence in a place and time that are not those in which the exhibited material was originally produced. This is one of the characteristic problems concerning the possibility of representing a culture. A Jewish museum, however, is in a different situation. First of all, it has to represent the dichotomy between the Jewish communities and the complex surrounding societies in which they have found themselves. Secondly, it often originates as an expression of local Jewish communities. On the other hand, Jewish museums also have to represent Jewish culture in a way that answers to the requirements of contemporary advanced societies.
