Description
Summary:Indonesia is home to roughly 165 million Muslims. They make up the largest ummat ("Islamic community") within existing national borders anywhere in the world. Focusing on the political events surrounding the production of the Al'Qur'an Mushaf Istiqlal - The National Independence Illuminated Qur'an - in the early 1990s, the author examines the interrelationships of religion and power in contemporary Indonesia. He uses Jürgen Habermas' concept if public sphere in his analysis of Indonesian society. (DÜI-Sen)
