| Summary: | The current Code of Canon Law makes no mention in its canons of the institution of what were called "reserved cases", that is tos any sins whose absolution was reserved to the diocesan bishop or someone delegated by him, given that the priest needed the power of jurisdiction by the special seriousness of some sins. In this article the author analices the list of "reserved cases" which appear in the late medieval synods held in the Iberian Peninsula Turing the 13th-16th centuries, pointing out the growing widening and variety of the matter contained therein, and which, on plenty of occasions, got confused with criminal or penal matters |
