Summary: | This article aims to examine the polemical confrontation between Hans Blumenberg and Carl Schmitt about the question of political theology, by starting from their respective analyses of Hobbes' thought. These analyses are indeed illuminating in order to understand the very discriminating point between the two thinkers, which consists of the conception of rhetoric, metaphor, and metaphorical traslatio. All that, I suggest, will add clarification to the meaning of Political Theology iii (1979) - that is the last, short wri-ting Blumenberg dedicated to this question. The difference between Blumenberg's point of view and that of C. Schmitt is the adoption and the claim of an irreducibly anti-theological and anthropological foundation of modern knowledge, that renders every secularization thesis meaningless. (English) |
