| Summary: | Christians with and without disabilities can care for each other most clearly in covenantal relationships, faithful and loving connections that help us to grow. These compassionate encounters can empower us to become what one theologian calls "catholic personalities," people open to authentically encountering all others. Specifically, in sacramental communities, Christians of all abilities can help each other in ordinary ways, without exercising domination, abuse, or submission, in the bonds of intimate relationship. Furthermore, when we help each other in these ways, believers of diverse abilities can express God's love through friendship, and can be vulnerable and available to each other. |
