| Summary: | In this article, we argue that education is a moral activity and that teaching has a strong moral core. Teachers need a sense of purpose in their work to make their teaching purposeful for themselves and for their students. In this article, we present goals and methods intended to promote purposeful teaching in different educational contexts. We use teacher education and moral education as our contexts and build didactically sound bases for purpose education. Our philosophy is based on educative teaching with the goal of instructing autonomous individuals who also contribute to society through their gifts and talents. We will present a didactic approach to purpose education adapted from moral education for teachers. The method is illustrated by its underlying theoretical assumptions together with a specific example of the method in practice. Our aim has been to provide theoretical bases and practical methods for purpose education which can be used all over the world in different educational contexts. |
