Summary: | During the space of a few years, religion in Haiti has just been witnessing a turning point. In the attitude towards the 'African' religion of the local peasant, anathema has given place to dialogue. This article maps out the paths that have led to this. Drawing on documentary sources already available, mainly social anthropological research and pastoral literature, the writer traces out the underlying line of development, offering the reader a reflection on an aspect of social change in a 'traditional' society in which, characteristically, the religious factor carries great weight. |
