Summary: | Under-development has been identified as this century's plague. Today, the numerous development actions, missions and inquiries all come to the same conclusion : development is checked and even stopped by mental structures, ideological factors, religious beliefs. This empirical finding bears out a long series of theoretical studies. For sociologists and eco nomists alike, from Weber to Tawney and Sombart, never stopped to investigate the influence of religious factors in the development of industrial civilization. However, the question remains : among all the religions found in a given milieu, which one is actually a check or a prime-mover of development ? Which one encourages sub missiveness to a given social set up ? Is this submissiveness really due to religion, or rather to the current social system ?All these problems are approached in this book from the Haitian point of view and on the documentary basis of the content analysis of a religious text-book. |
