The data indicate that clergy involvement with social problems, such as that exhibited by the "new breed" of American clergy, is linked to views on how to fulfill obligations to God in the secular realm; to beliefs about the role of the church in obstructing change; and to conceptions of the proper tactics and objectives of social reform efforts. Clergy views on man's finiteness and sinfulness in the eyes of God are not related to the degree of involvement with social problems. |
