Description
Summary:Young people from the Central Asian countries are being recruited by terrorist groups, leading their governments to further reduce the scope of religious freedom in their countries-by banning religious groups which have allegedly religious or extremist agendas, by tightening regulations governing the registration of religious groups, by banning the import of religious literature, by restricting access to internet sites, and by giving state-sponsored Islamic hierarchies increased authority. The effectiveness of these kinds of socialization oriented measures is questionable, and these policies are expensive, diverting resources that could be used to improve social conditions and enhance security training of officials.
