Beschreibung
Zusammenfassung:This study aims to analyse the socioeconomic and demographic profiles of Muslims living in Brazil and Mexico based on the data provided by the Brazilian and Mexican Demographic Censuses, both conducted in 2010. First, we provide a brief history of the Muslim presence in the two most populous and economically relevant countries of Latin America. Subsequently, their socioeconomic and demographic profiles are drawn from the following variables: number of followers, country of birth, gender, age, state of residence, education, and occupational situation in the labour market. Finally, we present conclusions regarding the possible association of each demographic profile with the maintenance of Islamic religiosity in such minority contexts.
