Zusammenfassung:Present day politics have been marked by an unforeseen return of religion to the public domain and the political arena. Since secularisation and progress appear to have distanced confessional protagonists as much as religious fantasists, we are now seeing new forms of linkages between politics and religion. Political parties referencing religious culture have emerged, within a context of an awakening nationalism. This article sets out to understand the reasons for the emergence, in a context marked by deep social inequalities, of a crisis of political representation and increasing doubt about the sovereign state.
