| Summary: | Transhumanism can be analysed as the emergence of a new religion characterised by multiple borrowings from various existing religions and historically identifiable currents of thought, but which also presents some original characteristics. In fact, this movement of thought and action can be placed in one of three main categories of religion; it has the characteristic elements of a “religious philosophy”, like Buddhism; it can be considered a religion without a personal god but not without a concept of the divine. The belief in “singularity” (the coming emergence of a global superintelligence), proclaimed as inevitable by several transhumanist thinkers, offers a good example. On peut analyser le transhumanisme comme l'émergence d'une nouvelle religion caractérisée par de multiples emprunts à diverses religions existantes et divers courants de pensée repérables historiquement, mais qui présente aussi des particularités originales. De fait, ce mouvement de pensée et d'action peut être rangé dans une des trois grandes catégories de religion ; il présente les éléments caractéristiques d'une « philosophie religieuse », à l'instar du bouddhisme ; on peut le considérer comme une religion sans dieu personnel, mais non sans divin. La croyance en la « singularité » (l'émergence prochaine d'une superintelligence mondiale), annoncée comme inéluctable par plusieurs penseurs transhumanistes, en donne un bon exemple. |
