Une inscription militaire de Lyon fait connaître la famille entière de Marinus : le père, un vétéran de la legio XXX Ulpia Victrix, dont un détachement faisait partie de la garnison de Lugdunum après 197 ; sa mère, une affranchie de son père, devenue son épouse ; ses deux frères, dont Aeternus, et une sœur. La datation probable de l’inscription d’Apamée en 232/3 implique, pour l’inscription de Lyon, une date vers le début du règne de Sévère Alexandre (entre 222 et 228). | ||
| 520 | |a This study focuses on some aspects of a funerary military inscription from Apamea in Syria. The deceased, Verinius Marinus, was a librarius in the office of the legate of legio II Parthica, which set up its winter quarters in Apamea on several occasions. The issues are: the date of the monument, the presence or absence of imperial epithets in the honorific titles of the legion, the mention of a legatus at the head of the legion while II Parthica was normally commanded by a prefect, and the identity of the deceased and his brother, who erected the monument. A military inscription from Lyon introduces Marinus’ entire family: his father, a veteran from legio XXX Ulpia Victrix, his mother, a former slave, who became his father’s wife, and two brothers —one of them was known from the monument in Apamea— and a sister. From the probable date of the Apamea inscription, 232/3, an approximate date can be deduced for the Lyon monument: the beginning of Severus Alexander’s reign (between 222 and 228). | ||
