Rhetorica and Exemplum: The Genesis of Christian Literature in Late Imperial China

This paper offers a survey of how European rhetoric reached China in the transitional period between the Ming and the Qing dynasties. The focus of my paper is how a verbal ars is transformed into the written ars, thus inaugurating the Christian literature in late imperial China.
