Description
Summary:On the 6th of January 1849, after Pius ix had fled from Rome, a revolutionary climate spread throughout the City even if the Republic still had to be proclaimed. That same evening, the canons of St. Peter declared to have witnessed a prodigious event concerning the Volto Santo relics, under their custody. So, this work aims at analysing the public and propagandistic use of such miraculous episodes which took place during the short lifetime of the Republic, by understanding how these occurrences acquired political implications and how they were read by both the factions.
