Description
Summary:The Marian apparitions of 1948 in Gimigliano (Ascoli Piceno) gathered for several days a large crowd of believers and curious people. The main protagonist of the facts was a 13-year-old girl, Anita Federici. The article reconstructs these events by means of her depositions before the diocesan commission of inquiry and of the documentation produced by direct witnesses. The multifaceted approach of the local Church will be discussed, analyzing the interpretations published by the newspaper of the bishop's curia of Ascoli Piceno and the diary kept in those days by a local parish priest. From this last document, elements will emerge to reconstruct the inner impressions and questions of a priest in the face of a complex subject and his way of interpreting the traditional line of prudence of the Church in these cases. In the background there was a nation such as Italy, which in that year was experiencing a particular moment of transition, in which the interweaving of politics and religion, emotions and spirituality was particularly important.
