Summary: | Recent archaeological and numismatic evidence from Southwest Iran and adjacent areas has illuminated some of the complex cultural changes underway in this region during the Parthian period (c. 210 B. The evidence is still sketchy, but it appears that this period witnessed fundamental changes in settlement patterns, economic structures, and administrative systems-changes that were integral to the formation of the first highly centralized, "bureau-cratic" empires during the Sasanian and Early Islamic eras. |
