| Résumé: | Poland’s public sphere, in the three decades following the fall of communism, has been shaped by tensions between secular and religious visions of the polity. This article analyzes significant trends in the politico-religious landscape of contemporary Poland and discusses the growing polarization of Polish society around religion and politics. While the Catholic Church openly supports the country’s populist and right-wing government and remains strong from the loyalty of a significant portion on the Polish population, resistance to that political alliance and to the traditional association between Polishness and Catholicism is observable in various corners of Polish society. These include factions within the Catholic Church arguing for the depoliticization of Polish Catholicism; apostate and secularist movements; and the support for, and participation in, a notable Jewish revival. The article shows that while very different in both content and form, these movements converge in their effort to secularize Polish national identity and build a public sphere where various religious and non-religious value systems co-exist. Au cours des trois décennies qui ont suivi la chute du communisme, l’espace public polonais a été marqué par des tensions entre les visions laïques et religieuses de l’État. Cet article analyse les tendances significatives de ce paysage politico-religieux de la Pologne contemporaine et discute de sa polarisation croissante autour de la religion et de la politique. Alors que l’Église catholique soutient ouvertement le gouvernement populiste de droite et qu’elle reste forte de la loyauté d’une partie importante de la population polonaise, la résistance à cette alliance politique et à l’association traditionnelle entre la polonité et le catholicisme s’organise dans différents secteurs de la société. Ce sont notamment des factions au sein même de l’Église catholique qui plaident tant pour la dépolitisation du catholicisme polonais, des mouvements apostats et laïcs que pour le soutien et la participation à une renaissance juive. Cet article montre que, bien que très différents dans leur contenu et dans leur forme, ces mouvements convergent dans leurs efforts de laïcisation de l’identité nationale polonaise et dans la construction d’une sphère publique dans laquelle coexistent divers systèmes de valeurs religieux et non-religieux. |
