| Summary: | Homeopathy is generally thought of as a form of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) developed in the late 1700s. Although homeopathic medicine is little more than a placebo from a scientific perspective, advocates of the treatments have nonetheless influenced medical practice, research, and public health. In this article, I examine homeopathy and its significance as a form of practical magic and part of the occulture or “cultic milieu,” which refers to a spectrum of mainstream beliefs and practices that herald an ongoing reenchantment process (Partridge, 2016). By focusing on homeopathy's status as a health practice, scholars have failed to take its more esoteric roots seriously. This contribution is important because, though medicine and science have both advanced rapidly since the era of miracles and magical cures, many consumers turn to homeopathy instead of conventional treatments to both imbue the everyday with spiritual meaning and solve concrete problems left unaddressed by conventional medicine. Desarrollada a finales del siglo XVIII, la homeopatía ha sido pensada generalmente como una forma de medicina complementaria alternativa (CAM, por sus siglas en inglés). Aunque desde una perspectiva científica, es poco más que un placebo, sus defensores, sin embargo, han influenciado la práctica médica, la investigación, y la salud pública. En este artículo estudio su importancia como una práctica mágica que forma parte del ocultismo o “del entorno sectario”, y que remite al espectro de creencias y prácticas populares en un proceso de reencantamiento (Partridge, 2016). Centrándose en su estatus de práctica curativa, los académicos no se han tomado en serio sus raíces más esotéricas. Lo que apunta el artículo es importante porque, aunque la medicina y la ciencia han avanzado rápidamente desde la era de los remedios mágicos y milagrosos, muchos consumidores, en vez de seguir tratamientos convencionales, recurren a ella para dar un sentido espiritual a su día a día y también solucionar problemas concretos que la medicina convencional no aborda. L'homéopathie, créée à la fin du 18ème siècle, est généralement considérée comme une forme de médecine complémentaire et alternative. Bien que la médecine homéopathique, d'un point de vue scientifique, ne soit rien de plus qu'un placebo, les partisans de ce type de traitements ont néanmoins eu une influence sur les pratiques médicales, la recherche et la santé publique. Dans cet article, j'examine l'homéopathie et son importance en tant que forme de magie pratique faisant partie de l'occulture ou «milieu sectaire», qui fait référence à un éventail de croyances traditionnelles et de pratiques qui annoncent un processus de réenchantement (Partridge, 2016). En se focalisant sur le statut de l'homéopathie en tant que pratique de santé, les chercheurs n'ont pas su prendre au sérieux ses racines plus ésotériques. Cette contribution est importante car, bien que la médecine et la science aient progressé rapidement depuis l'ère des miracles et des remèdes magiques, de nombreux consommateurs se tournent vers l'homéopathie au lieu des traitements conventionnels pour insuffler une signification spirituelle à leur quotidien et pour résoudre des problèmes concrets laissés sans solution par la médecine conventionnelle. Die Homöopathie wird allgemein als eine Form der Komplementär- und Alternativmedizin (CAM) angesehen, die Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts entwickelt wurde. Obwohl die homöopathische Medizin aus wissenschaftlicher Sicht kaum mehr als ein Placebo ist, haben die Befürworter der Behandlungen dennoch die medizinische Praxis, die Forschung und die öffentliche Gesundheit beeinflusst. In diesem Artikel untersuche ich die Homöopathie und ihre Bedeutung als eine Form der praktischen Magie und als Teil des Okkulten oder des „sektiererischen Milieus“, das sich auf ein Spektrum von gängigen Überzeugungen und Praktiken bezieht, die einen andauernden Wiederbelebungsprozess einleiten (Partridge, 2016). Durch die Fokussierung auf den Status der Homöopathie als Gesundheitspraxis ist es den Wissenschaftlern nicht gelungen, ihre esoterischeren Wurzeln ernst zu nehmen. Dieser Beitrag ist wichtig, denn obwohl Medizin und Wissenschaft seit der Ära der Wunder und magischen Heilmitteln rasant Fortschritte gemacht haben, wenden sich viele Verbraucher der Homöopathie statt konventionellen Behandlungen zu, um sowohl den Alltag mit spiritueller Bedeutung zu erfüllen als auch konkrete Probleme zu lösen, die die konventionelle Medizin nicht in Angriff nimmt. Homeopatię traktuje się na ogół jako formę medycyny komplementarnej i alternatywnej (complementary and alternative medicine, CAM), powstałej pod koniec XVIII wieku. Choć z naukowej perspektywy medycyna homeopatyczna stanowi niewiele więcej niż placebo, to jednak obrońcy tej metody leczenia wywarli wpływ na praktykę medyczną, badania i zdrowie publiczne. W niniejszym artykule badam homeopatię i jej sens jako pewnej formy praktycznej magii oraz jako część kultury okultyzmu bądź „środowiska kultycznego”, co dotyczy spektrum powszechnie akceptowanych wierzeń i praktyk, którymi świat wydaje się znowu oczarowany (Partridge, 2016). Skupiając się nad statusem homeopatii jako praktyki zdrowotnej, uczeni zapomnieli o pochyleniu się bardziej poważnie nad jej ezoterycznymi korzeniami. Ów wkład jest ważny, bo choć licząc od epoki cudów i magicznych lekarstw medycyna i nauka szybko się rozwinęły, wielu konsumentów kieruje się ku homeopatii zamiast konwencjonalnym zabiegom, by przepajać swą codzienność sensem duchowym, ale i rozwiązywać konkretne problemy, którym nie sprostała medycyna konwencjonalna. |
