Description
Summary:The text aims to provide a short introduction to the work of Bruno Latour for scholars studying religion. It is written in the form of a review essay of the first translation of his work into Czech, published in the book entitled Stopovat a skládat světy s Brunem Latourem: Výbor z textů 1998-2013 (To Trace and Compose Worlds with Bruno Latour: Selected Essays 1998-2013). In addition, it also reviews some of the principles of ANT which are not covered in the book itself (agency, translations, writing scientific accounts, symmetry, ethnomethodological motivations, a focus on practices and practicality) and analyzes in detail Latour's understanding of art and religion. In the critical part of the essay, a fundamental shortcoming in Latour's analyses of religion is identified and it is suggested how to overcome it by being faithful to the Latourian program applied in other areas of his work.
