| Summary: | After demonstrating Cesare Pavese's knowledge of Gerardus van der Leeuw's works, I analyze some writings contained within Feria d'agosto, within the essays Pavese wrote during the 1950s, and in his Dialoghi con Leucò. I will show how these passages reveal the influence of van der Leeuw's Phänomenologie der Religion on Pavese. Van der Leeuw's oeuvre played a significant role in shaping some peculiar elements of Pavese's poetics. In particular, it contributed to shaping the Piedmontese writer's mythopoeic thought. The similarities highlighted here do not aim to demonstrate Pavese's philological dependence on van der Leeuw; rather they seek to evidence and recognize the importance of religious studies literature within Pavese's cultural background - importance which scholars have some time downplayed or ideologically read. Dopo aver ricostruito, sul piano cronologico, alcune tracce della conoscenza dell'opera di Gerardus van der Leeuw da parte di Cesare Pavese, propongo l'analisi di alcuni testi compresi in Feria d'agosto, nella pubblicistica degli anni '50 e nei Dialoghi con Leucò. In essi è possibile ravvisare alcune suggestioni riconducibili alla Fenomenologia della religione. L'opus maius di van der Leeuw ebbe un suo rilievo nella formazione di alcuni elementi peculiari della poetica pavesiana, offrendo spunti, in particolare, alla concezione mitopoietica dello scrittore piemontese. Le consonanze evidenziate non tendono a dimostrare una dipendenza filologica, ma contribuiscono a concretizzare e a sostanziare il ruolo della letteratura scientifico-religiosa nella formazione culturale di Pavese. Un ruolo talora sottovalutato o letto in chiave fortemente ideologica dalla storiografia specialistica. |
