Description
Summary:Sarah Steele was a young woman who lived her whole life with a rare disabling condition, fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP), and in a family that include religion professor, clergy woman, and two siblings. Her death in 2017 and subsequent memorial service drew together multiple communities with whom she had been involved, and included reflections by her father, mother, and two siblings. Her father, Richard Steele, and her mother, Marilyn Hair, had both written and published other essays about their journey with Sarah in the Journal of Disability and in others. Bill Gaventa, with the permission and help of the family, summarizes some of the human and theological dimensions of their journey.
