| Summary: | Christian van Gorder's Islam, Peace and Social Justice takes on the ambitious and important task of promoting better relations among the major monotheistic traditions by providing a deeper understanding of shared social justice goals. In particular, it aims to provide non-Muslims—especially Christians—with a richer understanding of Islam's vast, multi-faceted social justice tradition. While acknowledging the significant theological differences between Christianity and Islam, van Gorder suggests their adherents should find ways to partner “on shared ethical and moral convictions about pressing social justice issues that we all can agree should be addressed with pragmatism and urgency” (p. 209).
