Description
Summary:Experience is a very difficult to grasp term, especially when combined with the adjective »religious«. On the one hand there are positions which emphasize the perceptive nature of experience like W. Alston's, on the other hand there are historical-sociological theories of which C. Taylor is a proponent. This article argues that a pragmatist position with an emphasis on the category of meaning governing the worldview as well as a close relationship with natural sciences can bridge the apparent divide.
