Description
Summary:Although the flare-up of violence comes as no surprise to those who live at the heart of the unhealed sore that is Israel-Palestine, this time the intensity of the violence has been substantial. Jerusalem is once again at the centre of the struggle between Israeli Jews and Palestinians. Much of the world stands by, expressing condemnations of the violence that ultimately remain ineffective. Those who strive to silence the guns rely on fatigue. Ultimately, the goal remains “to restore calm” so that life can go on. However, when this happens, for most Palestinians it will still be a life under occupation or in the shadow of discrimination, and for most Israelis a life led in fear of reprisals and violence. When will a day arise that takes us beyond violence, repression and hatred?
