Zusammenfassung:Pastors have the ability to counsel the families of people with mental retardation and are capable to help them process through the inevitable struggle of having a child with mental retardation. Dealing with denial, guilt, blaming, and feelings of repulsion, the pastor can help families to find the functional limits of their child with mental retardation. Then the pastor will be able to celebrate small gains with the family and facilitate the family's full, realistic acceptance of their child with mental retardation. As a pastor learns about mental retardation, he or she will be able to serve as a stable, sustaining, and thereby redemptive presence in the lives of families with children who have mental retardation.
