| Summary: | This article discusses the difficult issues of desperation and abandonment as these are felt by some religious people in the event of an accident or illness which radically changes one's body and one's physical abilities. It uses Jesus' cry of dereliction as a biblical theme for expressing the pain of separation from God in the absence of miraculous physical healing and raises questions about God's sometimes ambiguous relationship with people.
