Description
Summary:Through the discussion of two recent summery documents (Raccogliere i frutti, 2009; Dal conflitto alla comunione, 2013) this article wishes to evaluate the results of the Lutheran-Roman Catholic dialogue with particular reference to the ca-tegory of «differentiated consensus», which in many ways is the culmination of the two confessions’ ecumenical journey. The investigation is carried out regarding both method and content. What exactly do we mean when we speak of «differentiated consensus»? And to which doctrinal areas can it be applied without fear of misun-derstanding? The ecumenical gains made in recent years are presented; and some permanently problematic and distancing issues between the Churches are evidenced as well. In conclusion, right now it seems correct to say that «differentiated consensus» is to be welcomed as a category in fieri rather than as a category fully acquired by ecumenical dialogue.
