Description
Summary:In the hermeneutics of the Second Vatican Council and in its theological reception neither the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy (SC) nor its object – the liturgy – seem to take on a role in keeping with the challenging affi rmation, which indicates in liturgy itself «the culmination» and «the source» of Church action (SC 10). This paper investigates, on the one hand, a number of modalities and reasons for this diffi culty in the elaboration of the post-conciliar theology and, on the other, it evidences the attention reserved to liturgy by two of the main theologians of the Council and the post-Council, Yves Congar and Joseph Ratzinger. While in Congar the «liturgical question» is seen emerging in relationship with the need for a renewed «christian style», in Ratzinger it results as being central and taking priority so that the supremacy of God may be well-kept in the life of the Church and in the exercise of theology. Far from appearing accidental therefore, the conciliar fathers’ decision to first promulgate the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy reveals itself completely fi tting and providential, also when it is reconsidered in today’s ecclesiastic and theological context.
