Summary:Over the course of his extraordinarily long-lived cinematographic career C.B. DeMille (1881-1959) gave a decisive contribution to establishing the relationships between the American cinematographic industry and the religious ideology, understood as storage tanks of values and pictures. A look at his nowadays rather neglected personality, allows us to throw new light on the always timely and challenging mixing of religion and consumer market movies, especially regarding the image of Jesus.
