Description
Summary:This essay attempts a study of a number of cinematographic recountings of the Passion concentrating on the characteristics of their relationship with the biblical texts. After an analysis of the concept of intersemiotic translation, a number of evaluation criteria are presented: the capacity of referring to the original text, the interpretative force in comparison with today, and the economy of the changes. These criteria are then applied to Il Vangelo secondo Matteo by P.P. Pasolini, Gesù di Nazareth by F. Zeffirelli, and M. Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ.
