Summary: | The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between cinematographic language and religious experience. First, a number of thematic and methodological precisions, focusing particularly on the concept of image in the various religious traditions and on the Christian theology of beauty are made. The second part is devoted to cinematographic theory and to various ways of approaching the sacred and the transcendental which this theory has developed. In the third part, we propose a short analysis of several films presented at the international festival Religion Today in recent years. The analysis permits a number of conclusions regarding the fittingness – but also the limits – of cinematographic language for transmitting and communicating the diversity and typical features of religious realities. |
