Zusammenfassung:In Basil of Caesarea the argument of the «simplicity of faith» – repeatedly addressed in the history of spirituality and religion – acquires a characterization of great interest. It is mentioned in the debate with Eunomius, brought up again in the aesthetic corpus and acquires the meaning of the both doctrinal and spiritual «symbolic shape of the faith», based on the sacramental celebration and assumed as criterion of truth of the Christian experience in its various expressions, including the exercise of theology. This conclusion is reached by examining the recurrence of the syntagma, which is not new (see the anti-philosophical polemic in the Vita di Antonio and the elaboration of the theme «simplicity of heart») but reinterpreted in a perspicacious manner by Basil. An analysis of the typical correlation between haplotēs and the baptismal celebration follows. In the end we will address «imitation» and «memory» as means towards an historical implementation of the «simplicity of faith».
