| Summary: | Among other novelties, medical-scientific progress has created a new lapse of time with respect to man’s traditional experience: the time of dying. The concept of «new time» is intended here as an entity yet to be culturally structured. According to the author’s hypothesis, the way in which contemporary people recount this time of their lives constitutes something of an analogy to the myths of origins. It is suggested that euthanasia and palliative medicine constitute two symbolic proposals of what it means for technological man to die with dignity, that sanitary assistance is the setting where the symbolism becomes unveiled, that technological society has chosen for narrating the humanity of mankind |
