Summary: | This article is intended as an introduction to the discussion on euthanasia and takes Carol Gilligan’s views on the ethics of caring as a starting point. In particular, we will reflect on three English-speaking philosophers, whose scientific reception in Italy has only just begun: Nel Noddings, Susan Wolf, and Helga Kuhse. The concept of «caring for» comprises various shades and, consequently, the adoption of one of them instead of another leads to distinct practical differences, as becomes quite clear when analyzing the problem of euthanasia. The article’s authors make out weak and strong points in the arguments of Noddings, Wolf, and Kuhse in the attempt to present an original approach to the problem of active voluntary euthanasia through the nurse. |
