Description
Summary:Taking the current crisis in ethics of Western culture as a starting point, the present paper wishes to suggest a meeting point between secular ethics and religious ethics as the only possible way for overcoming this empasse. This meeting point is made out by the author in the «principle of vulnerability», or better in an attention and a constant care towards those who – for the most diverse reasons – seem vulnerable in our eyes. Thus, the emphasis on moral ideals such as vulnerability and the solidarity with vulnerable persons allow to overcome one of the great limits of enlightenment culture which, in the name of faith in science and «technical-instrumental reason» has reduced vulnerability to something contingent, not instrumentally inherent to the human condition. Only by placing the care of the vulnerable person at the center of the moral discourse it is therefore possible to prospect a new spirituality, defined by research and opening and capable of uniting different visions of the world, both secular and religious.
