Foi o inferno e o paraíso, foi fruto das narrativas dos viajantes e das invenções carregadas dos elementos míticos e mágicos. Foi a última página do gênese e a esperança biológica na era das incertezas. Essa Amazônia, ao longo dos séculos vem sendo interpretada e inventada por percepções que situam-se na história e carregam consigo ideias que influenciaram diretamente no olhar sobre a região. Dentre essas, destacamos a ideia de paraíso como um elemento presente nos discursos sobre a Amazônia inventada. Trata-se de um recorte onde se resgata uma visão que está também orientada pela tradição religiosa. Entre as narrativas dos viajantes sobre este lugar está o sonho de encontrar o “paraíso”, o novo Éden, definindo-o como “paraíso terrestre” ou “inferno verde”, fazendo alusão à dicotomia cristã entre inferno e paraíso. O objetivo deste artigo é abordar a concepção de paraíso vinculada à mentalidade que se formava acerca da Amazônia a partir dos viajantes. Neste sentido, pretende-se analisar a ideia de Amazônia em interface ao conceito cristão de paraíso, à luz da explicação hermenêutica de Hans-Georg Gadamer. The Amazon has always attracted astute and admired looks for its beauty and grandeur. It was an element of scientific interpretations and adventurous hopes. It was hell and paradise, was the fruit of the narratives of travelers and inventions loaded with mythical and magical elements. It was the last page of genesis and biological hope in the age of uncertainties. Throughout the centuries, this Amazon has been interpreted and invented by perceptions that are situated in history and carry with them ideas that directly influenced the look of the region. Among these, we highlight the idea of paradise as an element present in the discourses about the invented Amazon. It is a cutback that rescues a vision that is also guided by religious tradition. Among the travelers’ accounts of this place is the dream of to find the “paradise”, the new Eden, defining it as “earthly paradise” or “green hell”, making allude to the Christian dichotomy between hell and paradise. The objective of this article is to approach the concept of paradise linked to the mentality that was formed about the Amazon from the travelers. In this sense, we intend to analyze the idea of Amazon in interface with the Christian concept of paradise, in the light of the hermeneutic explanation of Hans-Georg Gadamer. |
