| Summary: | É recorrente na vasta literatura filosófica a preocupação com a religião, seja quanto às suas origens, seja quanto à sua influência nas instituições humanas. Seu peso nas instituições políticas, econômicas e sociais tem sido estudado pelos principais pensadores desde a antiguidade até os dias de hoje. Este trabalho procura pôr em evidência a crítica que Baruch de Espinosa faz à maneira como as ortodoxias religiosas, cristãs e judaicas, usavam, na Europa do século XVII, a Bíblia como justificativa para a ação politica. Nesse afã, o filósofo acaba se antecipando à futura crítica literária da Bíblia que se iniciaria no século seguinte. The concern with religion, whether it be directed to its origins or to its influence on human ínstitutions, has long ago beco me a commonplace of mankind's vast philosophical Iiterature. Religion's bearing on political, economical and social institutions has been the object of the studies by many important thinkers from ancient through contemporary times. This paper seeks to shed some Iight on Baruch Spinoza's critique of the ways by which 17 th century, European forms of religious orthodoxy, both Christian and Jewish, used the Bible in order to justify political action. Due to his strong concern with this issue, the philosopher figures as a farerunner of all future Iiterary criticism af the Bible, anly to be really initiated in the following century. |
