Description
Summary:In this article I present through ethnographic experience the entanglement between graffiti and afro-brazilian religions. I had acesse to the graffiti culture during my research with a group of organized artist women in the city of Belém do Pará, north of Brazil. As part of the group I become a graffiti artist and it was through this practice that I approached the universe of afro-brazilian religion when I received an invitation from a religious leader to paint the walls of a “sacred place. After the sketch was approved by the clergyman and when I was ready to paint I was informed that it was cancelled by one of the entities of the house (terreiro), called Maria Padilha. So, the publicization of the art image was interrupted in this dialogue. Finally the art was realized in the house of a filha de santo. This episode conducted an anthropological reflection about sensibilities and forms of visibility an invisibility.
