Description
Summary:From an interdisciplinary perspective, the scenario of interweaving between religion and politics was investigated in the case of female and evangelical participation in the 2016 councilors' elections, especially with regard to the activation of religious signs to build the charism before the electorate in the municipality of Campo Mourão-PR. The empirical case was the performance of Pastor Jurema Portes of the Church of the Foursquare Gospel, who presented herself as an option to the evangelical electorate, acting as a religious agent and using the institutionalized project of the Church to strengthen her political capital. The documentary corpus consists of semi-structured interviews and campaign materials made available by the candidate in her social network profile. The research indicates that belonging to minority groups, the use of the institutionalized presence of their religious denomination and the activation of religious signs in their materials and speeches are not sufficient for electoral success, but for political success, highlighting the importance of female and evangelical figure.
