| Summary: | In this article, I analyze the key characteristic of Haitian Pentecostalism abroad through a literature review. Research on this topic shows that Haitian Pentecostal communities in foreign countries are part of a worldview with a common thread: the rejection of Vodou spirits. Scholarship analyzes the conversion process to Pentecostalism as a mechanism for severing the ties with Vodou spirits and a common element of Haitian Pentecostals in host societies. In the conclusion, I propose that the study on Haitian Pentecostalism is a worthwhile resource in the analysis of Latin American Pentecostalism. Moreover, the conversion in the Haitian case has a spiritual basis that has not been identified in the Latin American case. This spiritual basis allows the comparison between Haitian and Latin American Pentecostalism and, in this way, contributes to the understanding of the Pentecostal movement. |
