Summary: | This article aims to provide information about the personal life of the secular urban clergy of New Spain in the seventeenth century. The case of two clergymen who developed their activities in locations characterized by their uniqueness within the geography of the viceroyalty are studied: the port of Acapulco, a city strongly marked by the trade of the Manila Galleons, and Durango, remote capital of the New Vizcaya and seat of the bishopric. The architectural space where they developed their activities, their immediate surroundings, livelihoods and social relationships can be reconstructed from their testamentary provisions and other documents. |
