This is especially true in India, where there is so marked a gulf between thinkers and "people," and where mere freedom of thought, always granted to her leaders, would mean no new day for India. "Fundamentalism" in India is essentially social. An effective modernism must also be essentially social. Recent tendencies and emphases give large promise of such a modernism.
