Description
Summary:In the present essay. I shall make an analysis of the treatment of the character of Sita in the versions of Valmiki and Bhavabhuti. I shall analyse the way the two authors might have rationalized Sita's characterization in their respective writings. My assumption is that underlying the characterization of Sita lies the general conception of women in the cultural milieu in which the respective authors were rooted. The purpose of this analysis is to provide an insight into the general conception of women in traditional India which is deeply rooted in their religio-cultural traditions. Both the religious texts and the poetic works reflect those conceptions.
