| Summary: | In order for South African religions to make their full contribution to the well-being of the community, people need to know about the perspectives and potential of all of our religions. One way towards achieving this is religious education in our state schools. We will need a model of religious education quite unlike that offered in our schools at present. The model needs to be multi-faith, non-prescriptive, and informative rather than propagandist. We may draw on models in use elsewhere, but mostly we shall have to develop a new model, providing education in the pupils' own faith as well as education about other religions, and which is sensitive to the social implications of religions. |
